SORRY GUYS BUT I HAVE TO SHOUT TO THE HEAVENS ABOVE....
I WAS CHOSEN AS AN AUTHOR MENTOR MATCH MENTEE!!!!
*COMMENCE FREAK OUT*
*AMM ACHIEVEMENT UNLOCKED*
But seriously guys. Seriously. I have had my share of rejections. I tried out for Pitch Wars twice. I tried out for AMM twice. I didn't make the final cut on multiple RWA contests. I attempted more pitch contests than I can count, and I've been rejected almost 30 times by agents on my first MS.
Do you want to know why I was eventually chosen as a mentee? It's not because I'm the most talented. I don't have a graduate degree in creative writing, and I haven't been writing non-stop for decades. I don't have any close relatives or friends who have massive clout in the writing industry.
I'm a normal person. I'm a normal writer.
Here's how I was chosen....I never gave up. I did NOT let defeat ruin me. And I knew I was going to be OKAY no matter what happened. Mentor or not, I knew everything would be fine, and I would find my own path with the help of CPs and writer friends along the way.
Being chosen as a mentee in no way guarantees automatic future success as a writer. I still have a long road ahead, and it's my responsibility to take this experience and make the best of it.
So if you weren't chosen...allow yourself the experience of grief. Mourn the loss for 5 minutes tops, then dry your tears and tell yourself it's time to move on. Because that's what I did. That's what many writers did, and we're doing fine. Alexa Donne even made a very helpful video about it.
Good luck to all! Feel free to respond or contact me if there's anything I can do to help. We're in this together!
