~Erika's book review: CRESS by Marissa Meyer

January 5, 2018

Marissa Meyer blows the competition out of her water with yet another marvelous book.

CRESS, the 3rd book in the Lunar Chronicles, is a continuation of Cinder's story. This time around, it's focused on the petite blonde surveillance specialist, Cress, who's been locked in her satellite prison since she was a young girl.

I absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVE this Rapunzel retelling. Meyer's cleverness knows no bounds, as evidenced by her expertise in spinning this ancient tale into a modern sci-fi wonder. Cress's breathtaking story takes us from Earth to space, back to Earth, and across foreign deserts and landscapes where danger lurks around every corner.

Every main character was well-developed and lovable. I found myself being absolutely enthralled with every moment Cress and Thorne spent together. I  want to gush endlessly on how much I loved them, but I don't want to give too much away!

Our beloved characters from the previous books come back, and the stakes are even higher. You will not be disappointed in the new arcs taken by Scarlett, Wolf, Cinder and Kai. As a matter of fact, I found the new story surrounding Scarlett and Wolf so much more moving and heart-wrenching than in the second book. And just when you think the Lunars can't get any more despicable, they exceed your expectations and become even worse, terrifying villains. I have a feeling they're going to reach a pinnacle in the fourth book.

Another part I loved was the huge twist involving our dear Dr. Erland. His story is also very moving and adds so much depth to a character that you would have mistakenly forgot about. Such a well-written character.

I am so sad that I'll be finished reading this series one day. I don't want it to end! 4/5 stars.
